“Dog” Arrests Man Inside Police Station

Cheazere Whiteley had gone with his parents to a police station in Colorado Springs, CO with the intent of turning himself in for failing to appear in court. During the process of turning himself in, Duane “Dog” Chapman and his team (including film crew) swooped in and arrested him. Officers at the police station recognized Chapman as a bounty hunter and let him make his arrest. According to Sgt. Bounty Hunter Arrested in Canada Faces Deportation

Matthew Parker, an American bounty hunter, was arrested in Calgary on Tuesday, May 19 on American warrants. Parker’s warrant stems from an earlier incident in Indiana where he allegedly forcibly contained a trespasser. Parker is being held by Canadian officials because he is considered a flight risk. UPDATE: Parker has been deported from Canada and is being held at the Marion County jail in Indianapolis, Indiana. His wife says, “He’s put lots of people into that jail, so he’ll have to be in protective custody.” Read More →

MS Sheriffs Can Ban Bail Bondsmen

The Mississippi Supreme Court has decided that Mississippi sheriffs can deny bail bondsmen the ability to write bonds in specific circumstances. The case stems from a case involving Calvin Hamp Sr., a Tunica County Sheriff, who banned a local bondsman from writing bonds for a period of over a year between 2005 and 2006. Read More →
WA Town Wants to Move Bail Agents Out of Downtown

Some city officials in Port Orchard want to change zoning laws so that bondsmen would not be able to have offices downtown or would be ineligible for street-level office space in the downtown area. The zoning laws have already been amended to not allow professional services – such as attorneys, for example – to have ground-floor offices. However, bondsmen are considered general services and are therefore exempt. A dispute at the Bexar County Bail Bond Association will now be heard before the state district court, after questions have been raised about the association treasurer’s financial records. The man who was until recently the association secretary, David Fernandez, who has filed a petition with the court asking that association treasurer John McRae produce financial records and provide a sworn deposition about the financial records of the association. Bondsmen Work to Prevent Youth Crimes

Owners and founders of the Danzy Bail Bonds Agency, Derrick Danzy and Will Cannon, were concerned about the number of juvenile offenders they were seeing at their business. As a result, they founded Intact Crime Consulting, a charitable group that encourages teens to avoid crime. The group offers teens a Youth Crime Free Prevention Kit, designed to help young people make good decisions. This summer, the charity is having a raffle to help raise funds. Read More →
