NC Forced to Release Violent Offenders Early

After state courts decided that a decades-old law defined a life sentence as 80 years, dozens of violent offenders, including rapists and murderers, will be released from prison at the end of the month.  Many of the defendants to be released have repeatedly been denied parole. Inmate Bobby Bowden, convicted of two murders in the 1970s and originally sentenced to death, argued that a law enacted in 1974 determined a life sentence was 80 years.
